French in inheritance
For 90 % direct descendants of immigrants, the French language was transmitted in their childhood by at least to one of their parents. When one of both parents isn’t immigrant, the transmission of French in childhood is almost systematic, and it is even the only language transmitted in 65 % cases. When they have two immigrated parents, 82 % learn French of their parents during the childhood, among which 16 % in an exclusive way. It is the descendants of two Turkish or Asiatic parents that receive least often the French language of their parents (respectively 54 % and 66 %). On the other hand, the descendants of two parents of sub-Saharan Africa, and particularly of central Africa and of the Gulf of Guinea distinguish themselves: French is transmitted to them in an exclusive way in 60 % cases.

In the following generation, 99 % descendants, themselves parents, use French with their children living in France: it is even the only language of usage in 75 % cases. When the descendants of immigrants had two immigrated parents, French is the only language used with their children in 62 % cases.

The singularity of the linguistic inheritance of the descendants of two parents of Asiatic (including Turkish) origin eases strongly in the following generation: nine of ten speak French with their children living in France. It is even the only language of usage for 20 % descendants of Turkish origin and for 40 % descendants of Asiatic origin.
